Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a potentially fatal collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel crossed the track directly in front of him

The concerning event occurred on the third rotation when track officials were seen on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two dudes sprinting across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Obviously there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a active circuit safety personnel can be allowed to just dash across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, race control was notified that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the governing body

"During the third lap, marshals were notified and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and recover the debris once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch personnel were canceled and a double yellow flag was raised in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what happened subsequent to that time"
